One of my favorites is Old Cardboard - Great magazine done very professionally. Read it cover to cover in one sitting.
http://oldcardboard.com/ They publish very good e-newsletters too. |

I love Old Cardboard too. Great magazine but it's only run quarterly.

Years back when VCBC stopped coming I was pissed as hell!
I had just renewed my subscription and was out about $50. The weird thing is that to this day, I never received, read, or heard anything about its demise or why they stopped making it. It just never came again and I certainly didn't receive anything about getting my $ back. The crooks stole my money! . I love getting Old Cardboard now, but do wish it came out more often, and I have to say that I didn't subscribe at first because I was afraid I might get burnt again like I did with VCBC.

Yeah, I would LOVE it if Old cardboard ran monthly. I wish there was another monthly vintage publication out there.

VCBC ran into some health problems and VCBC quietly closed. Really not sure about this, just a vague recollection. |

VCBC was sold to Don Betz of Jay's Sports Connection in Baltimore (one of the oldest baseball card stores, but no longer exists). I believe that he published a couple of issues. I don't know what happened after that.

Scott, You're memory is correct. Dennis Purdy sold VCBC to Don Betz. About a dozen issues were published under Betz until his wife became seriously ill. She was handling all of the desktop publishing and computer 'stuff'. Betz abruptly shut down the publication leaving many without an explanation or fulfillment of their subscriptions

SCD was a great magazine produced by the Stoman (sp) family in Michigan in the 1970’s & 1980’s. Once it was sold it began a slow death. Was a good tool in its early days. Always looked forward to receiving the magazine.

But their hobby newsletter of the stories is a nice resource and since Beckett really goofed up the Convention Calendar their Convention Calendar has been the resource which has brought the most "new"people to find out about my now "small" show. So, there are some real positives and the editor/staff work hard on what they do Rich

Anyone else remember in the late 80s when it got so big with ads, etc., they had to break it up into two to be able to bind it with staples? Hundreds of pages. That only lasted a short time due to a recession and the bursting of the bubbles of too many card issues, chase/insert cards that didn't have any real value, etc., but it was fun while it lasted. It took a while to get through an issue back then, a glorious thing for us collectors/dorks.
