So shill bidding is now dead, except on ebay? This is great to hear. I also assume auction houses don't have people's IDs and passwords.

. On one note, auction houses have id's......we have to. B & L can't see passwords nor would we want to.

Even on Net54baseball I can't see passwords. One other thing, even if someone were to hack Net54baseball all they could hope to get are email addresses. There is nothing else to even get. If someone wants my email address, and they aren't a spammer, I have no issue giving it to them. I don't give out any of our members info unless there is good reason....and almost never would give a phone number out.

Sean, if I were Bob I would probably not answer you. I would advise him not to, if I spoke to him. He answered the main question of auctioneers seeing max bids. If your question is "Is the max bid for buyers in the auctions on or off?", then it is hopefully always on. I have and do use it in many of his customers auctions in which I bid. I would imagine many of our members do too. But maybe I misinterpreted your question?

If it's like most other sites, the passwords are irreversibly hashed, which means they're encrypted with no way to unencrypt them.

Is it true that some auction houses even have the names and addresses of winning bidders?

If so, please give me a few minutes while I pretend to be outraged.
