Yup, here too, I'm in agreement with Rob. Painting over it may just be your best bet.

I bought this 1959 WS champs pennant a few weeks ago. A previous owner (perhaps the 9-year-old kid that took it home from the Coliseum in 1960) doctored the artwork by outlining the stadium in black marker (and, enhancing three other secondary colors).

I tried to remove the black ink by rubbing a Q-tip soaked in rubbing alcohol over the black ink, which sat entirely atop the white underbase that Trench screened on to the pennant. Results were mixed. Yes, it gradually removed some of the black ink; and, it did not harm the white underbase at all. Problem was the red dye that the felt was made of: it had become very unstable over the years, and the alcohol was causing more of its removal than the black ink. So I quit.

And turned to Plan "B." Sharpie makes a product called a "paint pen." And, they sell one in white. It's basically a felt-tipped marker that permits a heavy paint (not ink) dispersion. The paint is oil based, which means it's opaque enough to mask the black ink I was trying to cover. At the same time, the paint wasn't so thin that it ran all over the place, ruining the art.

This was what I used: https://www.amazon.com/Sharpie-Oil-B...IMS99GTX&gQT=1

After four coats, leaving 20 minutes of drying time between applications, I was very pleased with the result....

Anyway, try the rubbing alcohol method first. It can't hurt the white underbase. If it works, awesome. If not, consider the paint pen method?

Nice job Kyle! If only it was as easy as Photoshop.

He needn't worry. It's now part of my permanent collection.

I only modified it because it had previously been doctored; and, I couldn't remove the prior owner's alterations. Painting over them was the only option; and the goal was simply to make it display-able again.

Regardless, it's re-sale value is nil. And I intend to keep it that way: it's now on permanent display in my garage. With two tacks in it. Just as it's maker intended.

Very good points, Kyle. Two (perezfan) negatives equal a positive.

Just two tacks?

I’d post this under “Hey, pillowcase guys” but this has enough in common with pennants … in fact it seems as if Trench made this. The lettering in “Souvenir” is the sign, and of course the stadium graphic. 20” by 20”.

Any Indians collectors know anything more about these? A search reveals a few different colored versions, including one with pink fringe. Some like mine have a Browns pennant graphic (bottom left), dating to no later than 1953; have seen one with an Orioles pennant.

Default My 1924 Washington Pillowcase

Decorative pillowcases were a popular item for a while in the last century, but haven't seen too many baseball.

That's awesome Greg. Love the stadium and Wahoo graphics.

One thing that bugs me and probably only me: either "unfurl" the surrounding pennants if you want to show full names (e.g. SENATORS) or show them "furled" with SENORS, YANES, etc.
