What is the THIRD most desirable card out there?

I'd assume a T206 Wagner would be first and a '52 Mantle second, so what would be the #3 "most collectible" card in any condition?

Goudey Ruth?

Gehrig?

Mathewson?

'51 Bowman Mantle?

Cobb?

W Johnson?

1. N172 Anson in Uniform
2. Baltimore News Ruth
3. T210 Jackson

I like the '52 Topps Mantle but it isn't in my top 50

It's the details that kill you in this hobby. That is the rookie Ruth I was referring to. I guess for me, it would be #1.

Globally, your #1 is probably accurate, but from there it goes by taste. On a pre-WW2 vintage board, you'd probably not get overwhelming support for the '52 Topps Mantle being the #2 desirable card. It being the second most recognized globally might be a different discussion, though.

Truth be told, if I had a T206 Wagner, I'd sell it because it is so universally acclaimed in order to get cards that are more desirable to me. My point is that desirability is a personal choice. So, the question really is, "What is your #3?"

There are many cards above that hyped up common Mantle IMO

In "Excellent" condition (PSA-5) Id much rather have these and a dozen others Im sure.

How about the Four Base Hits Kelly? For my nickel, it is my single favorite card. Besides depicting a very important 19th century HOFer at the absolute peak of his popularity, it is the most artistic baseball card of which I am aware. The image used was taken in a photo shoot in which multiple poses were shot, clearly indicative of the desire to make the image something special.

I've always have been intrigued by 1933 Goudey Lajoie going far back as to when I was a kid. I would rank that card above both Mantle and Wagner for this collector.

I agree! I am imagining by selling a T206 Wagner I would be able to finish off all of my sets/upgrades, and have plenty of money left over to start a couple more projects that I've always wanted to.

That being said, I know this is a pre-war thread, and that's my main collecting focus, BUT the 1990 Topps George Bush and 1954 Bowman Ted Williams have always been intriguing.

Anyways, I think I'd have the 1869 Peck & Snyder Red Stockings team card in the top 3 somewhere, along with the 1934 Zeenut Dimaggio, and probably the Wagner.

I'd also wanna squeeze any of the 1893 Just So HOFers in there somewhere...

Corey- I'm with you on the FBHs Kelly. It has it all. The M101-5/4 would be another great choice. This is Ruth's true rookie card. The Baltimore News card is a minor league card. You can call it a pre-rookie or a prookie, but it's not a rookie.
